METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete usually depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left not long ago and it has not penetrated the surface, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a warm and sticky mess. Once the gum is frozen, we slide a putty knife or scraper right under the gum residue. Then we slide the scraper very slowly under the gum and the entire piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove gum that has turned black, or is already smashed down into the concrete, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal service, we will not use very high pressure because that could damage the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses more pressure than necessary to safely clean concrete surfaces. These surfaces can be damaged a lot easier than people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure.
