10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning isn’t always exciting for many of us. But it is important. As the holidays and winter end and we start looking forward to spring, something within us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve hoarded over the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is only for the inside of a house?
The exterior of your home could probably use a little refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the appearance of your home in Alpharette, and, even more important, will provide much-needed maintenance and care that will save money over the years to come.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time to clean your gutters, because a lot of leaves and debris pile up during the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest during the spring, making a big mess in your gutters if they are not cleaned.
Plus, pests and critters are scavenging for places to build their homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Residential window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. First floor windows will not give you too much of a headache, but second and third floor windows will be a bit trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tough chore, and will need a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You aren’t going to want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. That means you will want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and doesn’t cost very much. You can pressure clean your house, outdoor furniture, concrete patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will remove dirt and mud so they will not stain your home, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a good cleaning may seem strange because you’ll be driving on it, but, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washing service will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it’s concrete, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really help it stand out!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it is easy to forget about it during the winter when you are not doing any outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio might be in rough condition the first time you walk onto it in the spring.
Soap and water – and a little hard work – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you need to consider a more aggressive option, like power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are typical home roof issues in Alpharette. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your home, it’s an excellent time to pressure clean your roof as well, but you’ll need to use a different method than what you use for most of your home’s exterior.
If you start to notice streaks on your roof, algae is probably the cause. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be wiped off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your roof.
The best process for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and then let it sit. This will eliminate all organic organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Spruce up the Front
The front of your home is probably what most people see, so try to make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a clean exterior will improve your day, and will probably motivate you to spend a lot more time outdoors.
You can clean your front porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and consider painting it a new color for a bright look! Clean overlooked areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You will probably be spending much more time outdoors, so spring is a wonderful time to organize everything you’ll need for outdoor work.
Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment must all have an assigned area outside your home – a place that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the exterior of your home so much more throughout the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outdoors.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and garden bushes can make a major impact on the look of your home.
Kill weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you’ll be planting later on and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make yard care easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all the bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for several months, your grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family sick.
Wet it down to get rid of ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.
You can probably complete all of these jobs over the course of a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call!
